The blues transformed into painting

Lockdown brought music to this house and the blues transformed into painting. My husband decided to learn playing Ukulele and the little musical instrument arrived not long ago. It is a beautiful instrument and its details are gorgeous! Now we live into the blues with a wonderful acoustic sound coming from it. Hearing some notes coming from the ukulele brings me marvellous memories from my young age. I couldn’t leave it alone in the corner of our living room. I had to take a photo and I also for sure had to do a digital painting of it.

The blues transformed into painting was done in Affinity. It is straight forward using the mixer brush, however it is not as powerful as photoshop, where you can control the settings more. While in Affinity you control flow, and strength (amount of smudging) of the brush, in Photoshop you control the amount of brush wetness, the flow and the amount of mixing between the canvas and the pot well. In Affinity you can drag down the opacity colour to zero to have a clean brush all the time. I have some doubts about it as I always feel my resulted colours are darker than the original. You can control the wetness of the brush in another panel, however it is not fine tuned. You can customise it via linear or non linear graphics, which I find time consuming as you have to be changing panels to see the results. Nevertheless with patience, trial and error, we can produce beautiful results 🙂
