The concept of time passing by came to my mind during the process of creating a photograph using intentional camera movement (ICM). As I begun, I was thinking of just creating an abstract. My daughter has a wood jewellery box and I decided to move the camera in rotation, zooming in an out as if I was moving the dial that induces the wheel at the top to move and open the box.
Opening the box as time moves on
My mind started creating stories as usual, while I looked at the feeling of motion of the box. What the box would really mean? I couldn’t accept just an abstract! 😉 It was then that I came with the idea of the box being something that could trigger a major event in our world.
I thought of climate, the wars and populism. With this thought in my mind, I took a photo of a clock we have in one of our walls. Again, I moved the camera in circle again, but this time slower and using a 75mm lens for my micro four thirds camera, so I could have the clock ‘changing’ the time. This would reflect the time moving on.
Finalising the composite: time clicking away
With my second photograph of the clock using ICM, I separated the face of the clock and added to the original photograph that contained the jewellery box, as several elements for the photograph. My final step was to put the clocks following the same point of view of the box. For such I transformed each clock using perspective. I adjusted the lighting accordingly and the full concept was formed.
The main message I want the viewers to perceive is that time is passing by for us humanity to get sorted. It is time for us to have a wider vision of who we really are amid this vast wonderful mother nature. We are one element only, and negligible of this immense world. Let’s stop with certain narcissism, the time is tickling against our stupidity of being selfish and self-destructive.
