What is the first music it comes to my mind when autumn resurfaces with its dry leaves, early evenings with the sound of an owl on the tree across the road like semantics of a poem in a book? “All the leaves are brown…and the sky is grey….I’ve been for a walk…on a winter’s day…”. Yes I know, the season is different, but it feels like winter here, I promise.
Leaving the music in the background, what comes into my mind for my drawing? The exactly subjects from the title: dry leaves, an owl and a book. However, the owl represents someone close to my heart that loves book and owls too! Therefore, the owls is in her ‘confortable home’, reading a book.
Drawing the elements
I started my drawing in Procreate with the owl. I wanted a fun cute animal, so I created a fur brush by just doing four lines crossing at the centre, for its shape. The stroke path had a spacing of 12%. The input style of the shape was set to touch only and its properties had a scatter of 100% and a count of three. The apple pencil had a flow of 100% and so had the rendering.
As we should always do when we are drawing, every single element was done in a separate layer to avoid any distaster, and having to start again. After I was happy with the owl, I did the book in a simple manner, followed by the trunk of the tree, the background and the foliage falling in the soil…the owl’s ‘home’…
A simple and cute drawing to warm up my fingers during a cold autumn evening, surfaced 🙂
