After a good while not travelling around Europe, this last Easter we decided to spend our holiday in the Algarve. We stayed in Sesmarias, in the district of Albufeira. What an interesting place! Dominated by villas for renting that are all in the same Moorish style. A perfect place if you don’t want to be in the heart of the buzz, though you are just 10 minutes drive from the heart of the Albufeira’s old town.
Once we settled in the villa, we headed straight to the beach to get to know our surroundings and to feel the salty breeze that takes alway the tiredness almost immediately. Although we had blue sky, it was windy. The waves were beautiful and strong and the water too cold for our feet! However the softness of the beauty filled my soul with piece and the majority of my pictures were taken with a low shutter speed.
Albufeira
What can I say about Albufeira? First word that comes into my mind is cozy, mainly when you reach it from Sesmarias in the west. It reminded me of the historical cities in Brazil, which make sense when we think Brazil was colonised by the Portuguese. You walk on cobblestone streets where there are restaurants, cafes and stalls amid them. Before reaching the centre of the old town, you have to walk through a straight walkway with a large tiled mural telling the story of Albufeira. Once in the centre, you won’t be left feeling empty of porcelain shops or restaurants choices. Albufeira’s beach is a nice long one that I bet it gets very busy at the weekend. We visited it on a Friday and a stage was being set up at its end, near the pubs on the opposite side of the old town.
Algarve’s beautiful landscape
The following days of our holiday in the Algarve, we explored the west coast, passing by Armação de Pera and stoping at Lagos. What a beautiful coast! Lagos is another interesting town worthwhile a visit!
A walk from Praia dos Estudantes to Farol da Ponta da Piedade is a must!
The best of the holiday is left for the last day
The small beaches in Sesmarias with its phenomenal rocks formation gives us a wonderful view of nature’s strength! A careful walk through the rocks is essencial to find some little gems nearby Praia da Coelha. We ended our holidays spending the last evening breathing in the spectacle of mother nature going to sleep. Its quietness, its orange and red colours, its grandeur! I was engulfed by it.
