When I woke up this morning, my thoughts were on International Women’s Day. What we, being women, have endured through the decades. Rights, equality and respect have been fought and they still need to be remembered. Until today we still feel the harsh reality of a society where the intrinsic idea of men’s superiority exists, quite exposed or very subtle around the world we live in. However, we women, still ‘dance’ along.
Our ‘dance’ is silent. We manoeuvre our daily lives juggling our tasks, from the ‘simple’ household ones automatically imposed upon us to the more intellectual ones – for those that have the ‘luxury’ of the latest. Our ‘dance’ is not in a vacuum though, we carry with it our powerful thinking that comes along with our constant strength of our inner core, our being interlaced with mother nature. Our instinct doesn’t allow us to totally fade in the chaotic world we live in. We smile ironically towards those bearing futile sense of superiority.
As Simone de Beauvoir once suggested; we were made the ‘other’ in society as a result of men’s incapacity to understand us in full. The mystery might have proved unbearable. A mystery that for me represents our nature of thinking and the ability to dance constantly and strongly among the music lines of life.
Women that somehow had an influence through my life
As a scientist, Rosalind Franklin. Not only because of what she endured in her life regarding her research being misused by others, but of course by her discoveries.
As an artist, I blame the old G+ where I got to know Robin Griggs Wood. Her wonderful composites made me realise that I could use my imagination and stories into the photography world. She was and still is a source of inspiration, a fabulous mentor, playing a fundamental role in my growth. She is my profound virtual friend!
Brooke Shaden, whose work, courses and stories have inspired me profoundly and resonate with my love for the dark, for the mystery of our souls.
Last but not the least my mother. An example of strength, integrity and wisdom. My unique friend that is kept deep close in my heart. Who through her studies of psychoanalysis immersed me somehow in the world of Freud, Sartre and more :-).
The illustration of our eternal dance
The abstract illustration below is for us women that always persevered with positive thinking, courage, and determination for endless growth.
Let us not be silenced, coerced in a world that is going backwards in the hands of those ingrained in a chauvinistic philosophy. We carry this magic in us, creatures of nature, dancing persistently and wisely to the vibrating chords of our challenges.
